Hi, all:

Had a white-throated sparrow outside my kitchen window this morning - the
first one I've had in my yard in the 6 1/2 years I've lived here. It was
really neat seeing one after so many postings of the movements of the
species around WA. Also, still have a couple of juv. white-crowned sparrows.
They pass through here on the way north and again on the way south, hang
around for a couple of weeks and then they're on their way. It's pretty
unusual for any of them to still be here in Nov. The really neat thing was a
rough-legged hawk in my yard. I have a large willow about 20' from my front
door with a suet feeder in the crotch where many MANY chipmunks stuff
themselves. As I pulled up to the door the hawk flew out of the spot where
the feeder was - I don't know if it had gone after a chipmunk or decided on
a bit of suet (would it do that?) but it only flew about 100 ft away and
spent about 10 minutes perched on a nestbox (until I finally had to get out
of the car). That was really the high point of my day!

Thanks to the providers of the terrible puns! I inflicted them on all the
members of my family. Ho Ho Ho!!

Regards, Joanne
