Friday, November 9, evening update, Vancouver Bird Alert.

The featured birds are Cattle Egret, Common Redpoll, Northern Goshawk and
Long-eared Owl.

Sightings for Friday, November 9:

The Cattle Egret continued to be seen at 96th Street and Highway 10 at
Boundary Bay, but as the bird sometimes goes into the barn with the cattle,
t may be difficult to see at times.

A number of birds were seen at Reifel. A Willet was seen from the north
tower as it flew past, and a Hutton's Vireo and 8 Common Redpolls were also
in the area along the North Dyke Trail. Another 4 Redpolls were in birch
trees near John's house. A Yellow-rumped Warbler was along the East Dyke
Trail, and an adult Northern Goshawk was also around.

The usual field towards 96th Street in Delta had 100 Lapland Longspurs and

American Pipits.

2 Long-eared Owls were 250 yards north of the entrance to the Terra Nova
Reserve in Richmond, in a large bush overhanging the ditch.

Thursday, November 8:
A Cattle Egret was again seen at 96th Street and Highway 10, and is best
seen about 100 meters up 96th at the school, looking east.

Another Cattle Egret was seen from the Westham Island Bridge as it flew
downstream towards the Strait.

A Common Redpoll was seen in birches at the foot of 96th Street at Boundary
Bay and was seen to fly towards the parking lot at 104th Street.

Another Common Redpoll was at a backyard feeder at 21st Avenue and 153A
Street in South Surrey.

The American Black Duck continued to be seen at the compensation lagoon at
the Tsawwassen ferry jetty, and the Willet was at the base of the jetty.

About 80 Lapland Longspurs could still be seen in a field at 96th Street,
100 meters towards 104th Street. Also at 96th was a Marbled Godwit.

Wednesday, November 7:

A Cattle Egret was seen at the corner of 96th Street and Highway 10, just
east of the Esso station, with a number of cows.

The juvenile Yellow-headed Blackbird was again seen at 40th Avenue and 140th
Street in Surrey.

A first winter Heermann's Gull was seen at high tide just east of White Rock
pier at White Rock Beach.

Large numbers of Lapland Longspurs continued to be seen in 2 corn stubble
fields along Boundary Bay. One was ? kilometer east of 96th Street, in which
there were an astonishing 150 to 200 Lapland Longspurs and the other is the
field east of 104th Street that had only a handful of Lapland Longspurs and
2 Snow Buntings. Also seen were a Grey-crowned Rosy Finch, a Red Knot and a
Merlin. A hedgerow going to the west of 104th had a Wilson's Warbler.
