Columbia Estuary Report 11/10/2001

Todd Thornton found a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE on the Warrenton Sewage
Ponds this morning. It was still there at 1530hr in spite of
the guy in tee-shirt throwing rocks into the pond, presumably
to scare up the ducks so he could shoot them with the shotgun
(and I'm guessing it was loaded) that was leaning against the
maintenance shed. There was also and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER there.

There were 4 HORNED LARKS on the river beach at the South Jetty
of the Columbia River. Three were Streaked Horned Larks (strigata),
but one appeared to be an interior pale form (arcticola-type).
There were also lots of HOUSE FINCHES in the dunes.

A PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER, a WESTERN MEADOWLARK and 300 EUROPEAN
STARLINGS were on the shorebird flats.

I walked the beach from parking lot A south for about a kilometer.
A mixed flock of DUNLIN, SANDERLINGS and WESTERN SANDPIPERS was
roosting in a single flock. A single SAVANNAH SPARROW was working
the drift line.

The TROPICAL KINGBIRD continues to be seen in Seaside around
9th st between Franklin and Downing.
