This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Friday, November 16, evening update.

The featured bird is Tufted Duck and there's a rare bird alert for an out of
town Smew.

Sightings for Friday, November 16:

The female Tufted Duck was again seen on the outer pond at Iona Island.

Out of town a Smew was seen just north of Comox on Vancouver Island at
Little
River in the bay near the BC ferry terminal with ferries to Powel River.

Thursday, November 15:

2 Long-eared Owls continued to roost on the West Dyke in the Terra Nova area
of Richmond.

A White-throated Sparrow was seen at a balcony feeder in a high-rise at
Chilco and Nelson in the West End of Vancouver.

Tuesday, November 13:

The female Tufted Duck was seen on the outer pond of Iona Island. Also in
the
area were 55 Western Sandpipers and 150 Snow Geese.

A Cattle Egret was seen at Hale Road on the Alouette River. A male Redhead
was at Pitt Meadows where the north and south Alouette Rivers meet. Also
seen
was a Northern Shrike.

Monday, November 12:

The Cattle Egret was present at Highway 10 and 96th Street in Delta. Also in
the area, a Rough-legged Hawk was at the foot of 104th Street.
3 Short-eared Owls were at Sea Island along the airport fence on the east
side of the north runway.

2 Hutton's Vireos were at Point Roberts.

An American Dipper was seen at Noos Creek in Port Moody and on Sunday a

Spotted Sandpiper was seen flying west down the north side of Port Moody
Inlet.

Also in late reports for Sunday, 2 Ancient Murrelets were seen off Point
Roberts and 2 Ring-necked Duck and a Merlin were at Colony Farm.
