Last Thursday I attended Martin Muller's talk on his Green Lake
Pied-billed Grebes at the SAS monthly program. In the course of his
excellent introduction to the private lives of these critters, he
touched on the fact that Dennis Paulson has published on the internet
his "Comments on The Sibley Guide to Birds". I missed the website
information, so called Dennis and got it. WOW!
The comments relate to about 200 species and, if printed,
fill 26 pages. Many of the comments refer to the range maps,as they are
at variance with Washington state records. But others describe subtile,
and not so subtile, accuracies, or inaccuracies, in the plumages, or
comments on the flight or calls of specific species.
The website is: www.ups.edu/biology/museum/upsbirds.html
I've spent quite some time annotating my Sibley (not
finished yet), and encourage others to at least give this perspective a
glance.
Thank you, Dennis. Fran Wood (male)
