Saturday and Sunday morning I too tried for the Swamp Sparrow at
Marymoor Park without any luck, though I got brief look at a very strange
sparrow that, if it wasn't the Swamp Sparrow, it was something just as
interesting. Unfortunately, my ephemeral glimpse wasn't enough to ID the
bird, but I can say that it was nothing I'd ever seen before. I thought it
possibly may have been a first winter White-throated Sparrow, as it was
darkish and had yellowish lores (but don't quote me on that). At any rate,
I'm also wondering if anyone has seen the Swamp Sparrow recently.
At the Swamp Sparrow site on Saturday and Sunday, there was a huge
flock of HOUSE FINCHES, which left on Sunday when a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK
decided to grab breakfast. Sparrows included the ubiquitous SONG, several
LINCOLN'S, immature and adult WHITE-CROWNED, a few immature GOLDEN-CROWNED, a
FOX both days, a couple SAVANNAH on Saturday, and a couple SPOTTED TOWHEES on
Sunday. The activity there is astounding! It is the perfect place for
sparrows, and some more interesting ones will undoubtedly surface there again
this winter.

Good Birding,
