Location: McLane Creek Nature Trail, Thurston County

This morning I walked the McLane Creek and Centennial Forest trails
between 0907 and 1105. Chum Salmon are running in McLane Creek; I
counted 84 spawning fish and 18 carcasses. I also got to see a Shrew
snuffling about in the leaf litter at my feet for a bit. The big hits
were finally finding a Dipper where I was sure one _had_ to hang out,
and stumbling into 3 Gray Jay.

Birds seen (in taxonomic order):

Pied-billed Grebe 2
Mallard 9 [1]
Belted Kingfisher 1
Gray Jay 3
American Crow 4 [2]
Winter Wren 4
American Dipper 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet 40 [3]
Song Sparrow 4

Footnotes:

[1] 5 male, 4 female.
[2] In flight overhead.
[3] In 4 flocks.
