On Saturday morning I received a call from Steve Mlodinow who was
birding at Vancouver Lake in Clark County. He had just found a RUSTY
BLACKBIRD in the large blackbird flock that hangs around the farm just
south of Frenchman's Bar County Park. This is the same flock that had
tricolored Blackbirds last year. He also reported a ROSS' GOOSE in the
flocks of geese there. I hurried down there but was unable to relocate
the blackbird mainly due to a PEREGRINE FALCON that kept the flock in
motion while I was scanning it.
The property owner came out to check to see what I was up to and
was quite friendly to the idea of birders, he had been having trouble
with hunters attempting to access this property despite it being within
the Vancouver city limits. I told him that this was the second Rusty
Blackbird to have been seen on his property and that this was only the
third sighting for the county. In the flocks of geese there I saw one
EMPEROR GOOSE, at Post Office Lake there was a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GOOSE, a EURASIAN WIGEON, and another PEREGRINE FALCON .
