Tweeters, Dan,
Anna's Hummingbirds are no strangers to our yard, so we are very
familiar with this bird. We have even had Dan band a few . Yesterday and
today my wife and I both viewed one particular male with interesting
markings. It's breast is a red-orange color(like the red color on a
House Sparrow) instead of the normal green-grayish color.
It's gorget is a typical full adult male Anna's gorget. The red-orange
coloration on the breast is quite prominent and is not part of the
gorget and is not iridescent like a gorget.
Has anyone else seen this in an Anna's ? It is very interesting and
unusual and I personally have never seen or heard of this before. Any
opinions?
(I will try to get a photo of it.)
