Boreal and Saw-whet Owls nest at the same elevations (5000 - 6000 ft.) and
in similar spruce-fir and Lodgepole Pine habitat types in the area around
McCall, Idaho in central Idaho. This is based on a long term nest box
project in this area. Obviously this is somewhat different from sub-alpine
habitats in the Cascades but there is a precedence for it. Also I believe a
similar situation exists at Lolo Pass at the ID/MT border on the Bitterrot
Crest in mostly Lodgepole Pine type habitat.
thanks, Charles.
