Hi Tweeters,

I am relatively new birder and have noticed most of the Wood Ducks near my home are shy, particularly the females.

I was in Yakima this past weekend and stopped at Sportsman State Park and was amazed at the number of Wood Ducks. I am guessing at least 100 pair, maybe more. They were fairly approachable and were even up on the lawns like Mallards often are. I wonder are they gathering for migration?
