Greetings All,

Today, 2 October 2001, Wenatchee Confluence State Park at Wenatchee,
WA was hopping with birds. As soon as I arrived at the park, it was clear
that a large fallout of warblers and Ruby-crowned Kinglets had occured.
Hundreds of Yellow-rumped Warblers were seen. They were very, very
difficult to count. There could have been several thousand. 10
Orange-crowned
Warblers and several Wilson's Warblers were present as well as many
Ruby-crowned
Kinglets. A brilliant male Violet-green Swallow looked as though it had
freshly
molted.

Two rarities were seen here.

A White-throated Sparrow was in the roses above the river bank just north of
the campground.

Magnolia Warbler...One with Golden-crowned Kinglets in the cottonwood forest
at the Horan Natural Area, which is at the south end of the state park.

To find the Magnolia Warbler: From US 2 at Wenatchee, eastbound or
westbound, follow signs to the State Park. Park in the first parking lot
which will be
on the right. Walk the asphalt trail south, go over the bridge over the
Wenatchee River. The entrance to the Horan Natural Area is just across the
bridge. Enter the Natural Area and go straight ahead on the trail to the
restroom. Here is a trail junction. Go left and very soon you will enter a
cottonwood forest. The Magnolia Warbler was seen about 200 feet inside
the forest.

Good Birding,
