Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday October 4. If you have anything to add call

On October 2 two XANTUS'S MURRELETS were reported flying off Boiler Bay.
On September 30 a BROAD-WINGED HAWK was near Lebanon and one was at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at Bend September 27. A CAPE MAY WARBLER
was at Frenchglen September 28. A male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was at
the pond west of Riley September 30, and a NORTHERN PARULA was at Malheur
Headquarters October 1.

Very heavy migrations occurred during the week. The most conspicuous were
CACKLING and WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, TURKEY VULTURES, FLICKERS, and MERLINS.
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were seen at Vancouver, Sisters, and Malheur NWR.

A RUFF and a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER are now at Bandon Marsh. A CURLEW
SANDPIPER was at the North Spit of Coos Bay October 1.

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was south of Newport October 1. All three jaegers
were seen during the week-end at Boiler Bay and at the South Jetty of the
Columbia River.

Large numbers of SANDHILL CRANES, CANADA GEESE, and WHITE PELICANS are
now being seen on Sauvie Island. A flock of 47 GREAT EGRETS were on
Sturgeon Lake September 30.


A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was at Ankeny NWR October 3. A female CALLIOPE
HUMMINGBIRD was at Albany October 3. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was near Monroe
the same day. Eight COMMON TERNS were at Lost Creek Reservoir near Shady
Cove October 1.

A male EURASIAN WIGEON was at Tumalo Reservoir west of Bend Sepbember 30.

A SCRUB-JAY was at Frenchglen September 29 and another was at Malheur
Headquarters October 1. Single RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were seen over the
week-end at Roaring Springs Ranch, P ranch, Benson Pond, and at Malheur
Headquarters.
