Subject: Bird Boxes with diamonds and bats

Sort of bird related....
I installed two bird boxes with the diamond-shaped entries this spring. The
swallows were not too interested (although I have had success with this
design in the past). However, since at least the beginning of September I
have had a little brown bat roosting in one of the boxes! I have watched
him on several morning enter the box by slamming into the front of it and
crawling up and through the entry.
Does anyone know how long this, what I believe to be a single bat, might
roost in the box? I read that they hibernate in caves. Do they migrate?

Best birding and batting,
Karin Sable
