Subject: WDFW -- Winter Backyard Bird Surveys
Date: Oct 5 10:29:38 2001
From: Chris Thompson - THOMPCWT at dfw.wa.gov

As a Research Scientist and ornithologist who works for Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, I can vouch for the scientific need for the data that are generated by the Backyard Bird program run by Tricia Thompson (no relation to me). It is a very worthy program; one of it's main values is its potential for tracking long-term changes in bird populations. As a result, the more cooperators she has, and the more years of data she has, the more valuable the dta become. Therefore, I highly recommend this program to everyone.

Last, in the current economic climate, funding for this program is waning. If any of you are so inclined, I'm sure that a donation to WDFW to help keep thie program running would be most appreciated.

Best regards,

Chris

Hello all...how would you like to have a bona fide excuse to watch birds?
(as if we need one). I participated in this survey the past two years and
found it to be very enjoyable, and I am looking forward to beginning in a
new neighborhood this year...with some new birds for me. I hope you choose
to join if you are not already participating. Final day for signups is Oct.
25th.
