Chinook Valley Raptor Count, Pacific County, Washington
October 5, 2001 - 0855-0940hr

I saw at least 4, more probably 5 WHITE-TAILED KITES from
Lingenfelter Rd today. A juvenile AMERICAN KESTREL was
sitting on the power pole near the turn out. RED-TAILED
HAWK numbers were also up.

There are still several hundred BROWN PELICANS along the
Columbia River. They are almost certainly eating PACIFIC
SARDINE if the dead ones littering the shoreline are any
indication.

Birds seen (in taxonomic order):

Brown Pelican [1]
Double-crested Cormorant
Pelagic Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Mallard
White-tailed Kite 4 [2]
Northern Harrier 2
Red-tailed Hawk 5

Killdeer
California Gull
Western Gull
Glaucous-winged Gull
Northern Flicker
