The Port Townsend Marine Science Center's first Protection Island cruise of
the fall season had great weather, interesting pelagic sightings and the
added treat of spotting a rather large male elephant seal on the beach of
Kanem spit, on the west end of the island and a huge (400 - 500) group of
Harbor Seals on the northeast shore of Protection Island. As is our custom
we traveled into Kilisut Harbor for additional viewing upon returning from
Protection Island.
