My niece and I birded Lake Fenwick last Wednesday and we saw (of course)
many, many Mallards, two pair of American Widgeons, a pair of Ring-necked
Ducks, two pair of Wood Ducks (always a favorite of mine) and the most
unusual Canada Goose. His breast was neither dark or light but the most
beautiful golden color. My niece commented on the color too. I have never
seen a goose with this color. Have I been leading a goose-sheltered life or
is it a lovely rarity?
Also, Lake Fenwick, at least at the boat launch, has been disgustedly
polluted by trash: bottles of both the pop and beer persuasions, an oil
drum, used condoms etc. I am going to call the City of Kent and complain but
if they refuse to do anything, does anyone have a rowboat and the
willingness to row me out there so I can clean it up? This is not just the
odd bit of litter but the water is full!
