Today my mother and I birded at Nisqually NWR from 1pm-2:30pm, with a few
notable highlights that we encountered, along with most of the listed
species noted also by Dave Hayden soon afer we arrived, except for a few. We
mainly hiked from the west parking lot to the Twin Barns, then back along
the boardwalk back to the parking lot, with some extensive scoping of the
open fields. Our first species was 9 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS that flew over the
refuge parking lot heading north while calling in flight, which is a notable
number for the location. Other highlights included:

1 Snow Goose
250+ "Cackling" Canada Geese
4 "Aleutian"Canada Geese
1 Cooper's Hawk
2 Greater Yellowlegs
1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS
1 Common Snipe
45+ Am.Pipits
2 NORTHERN SHRIKES(1 adult, and1 immature, being our personal first for the
season)
17 Cedar Waxwings
24 Yellow-rumped Warblers
3 Fox Sparrows
1 Lincoln's Sparrow
12 Golden-crowned Sparrows
3 White-crowned Sparrows

Good birding,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
