Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday October 18. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 503-233-3976.

On October 10 a badly worn kingbird was seen southeast of Canby. There
appears to be considerable trouble identifying it to species. It's a
TROPICAL, COUCH'S, CASSIN'S or something else. It is along S. Forest Road
(Gun Club Road). This road runs south from 13th. Ave. near it's junction
with Mulino Road.

A male BROAD-BILLED HUMMINGBIRD visited an Astoria feeder October 6 to
the 14th. and may still be in the area. A female or immature ORCHARD
ORIOLE has been behind the Marine Science Center on Yaquina Bay since
October 13. A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was there October 16. An immature SUMMER
TANAGER was in a northeast Portland neighborhood October 13. One or two
TENNESSEE WARBLERS were at Page Springs Campground October 13.

Good numbers of MEW GULLS have arrive in the state during the week.
KITTIWAKES, THAYER'S GULLS, and HERRING GULLS are now being seen along
the coast. HORNED GREBES aren now arriving west of the cascades.

On October 17 a LONG-EARED OWL was at Brookings. Two PALM WARBLERS were
at the North Spit of Coos Bay October 16. An early ROCK SANDPIPER was at
Boiler Bay October 16. A FRANKLIN'S GULL was at the South Jetty of the
Columbia River October 11. A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was there October 14,
and a DUNLIN was there the next day.

Three SNOWY EGRETS have been at Ridgefield NWR all week. One, possibly
three EMPEROR GEESE were on Sauvie Island October 14, but have not been
seen since. An early SLATE-COLORED JUNCO was in Portland October 14.

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER has been at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest
Grove since October 14. Two RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were there October 14,
and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was there October 15. An immature WILSON'S
PHALAROPE was at Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro October 15.

Two or three GOLDEN EAGLES and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK were at Ankeny NWR
October 13.
