A friend of mine who went deer hunting last weekend in the hills
east of Winthrop (Methow Valley) saw two WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKERS, one
male and one female, in the Bear Creek drainage, up on "the ridge toward
Pearrygin Peak." They were about 500 feet apart, feeding in Ponderosa
Pines about 30 feet off the ground. He reports that they were making
"happy woodpecker noises."
