Sightings from Mann Lake this week include an assortment of grebes, GREAT
EGRET, 2 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 2 SNOW GEESE, PRAIRIE FALCON, SURF
SCOTER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER,
DUNLIN, LEAST SANDPIPER, and WESTERN SANDPIPER. Thanks to Bryan Jamison,
Jane Westervelt, and Charles Swift for sightings.

From the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 south into town, cross the
Clearwater River on Memorial Bridge and immediately take the first left
(east) toward East Lewiston. Turn left (east) onto East Main Street and go
about a half
mile to the flashing yellow lights. Turn right (south) onto Lapwai (a.k.a.
Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay right on Lindsay Creek Road
(Nez Perce County Road 460) and follow it about 5 miles to its terminus at
Grelle Avenue. Turn left (east) onto Grelle Avenue and just past the sharp
right curve, turn left (east) onto East Powers Avenue (a.k.a. Lapwai Road).
Continue straight (east) past the grain towers to the main parking lot. ID

Sightings from Sprague Lake this week include RED-NECKED GREBE, GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, SNOW GOOSE, SURF SCOTER , 6 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS on
10/14, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, BONAPARTE'S GULL, PRAIRIE FALCON, and a late
WESTERN FLYCATCHER. Most sightings from the south end of the lake. Thanks
to Craig & Judy Corder, Bob Flores, Cindy McCormack, and Matthew Moskwik

The first NORTHERN SHRIKE and TUNDRA SWANS of the season were reported by
the Coeur d'Alene Audubon Society from Hidden Lake along the lower Coeur
d'Alene River on October 13.

A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported from Hood Park in Walla Walla
County, WA, October 13 but there have been no subsequent reports.

At McCain's Ponds, Othello, WA on October 13, Bob Flores found a variety of
shorebirds including a STILT SANDPIPER plus single PRAIRIE and PEREGRINE
FALCONS. WA DeLorme 53, B-7

I found a BLACKPOLL WARBLER on October 14 in Riverfront Park in Spokane.
Also later that day 13 SURF and 3 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS at the south end of
Rock Lake, Whitman Co., WA on October 14. WA DeLorme P. 72 DC-3

Larry & Jacque Goodhew report a GREAT EGRET at the Walla Walla River delta
on October 14. WA DeLorme 40, D-1

An adult, light PARASITIC JAEGER was on the beach in Coeur d'Alene on
October 15, seen by several area birders and subsequently found starving
and captured for rehabilitation.

A SURF SCOTER and a PACIFIC LOON were at Honeysuckle Beach at Hayden Lake
on October 18, according to Steve Lindsay. ID DeLorme 60, A-12.

Also on the 18th, Nancy Miller reports a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW at her
Viola, ID home.

Randy Hill on October 20 found 5 VARIED THRUSHES, 3 HERMIT THRUSHES, and a
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at Hatton Coulee Rest Area and at Washtucna 3 HERMIT
THRUSHES and a BARN OWL in the Russian-olives. Both in Adams Co. See WA
DELORME 54 B-2/3 and 55, B-6.
