On Sunday, Oct, 21st I was able to get away for some birding and
despite the rain and foggy conditions was successful in finding both the
Canby CASSIN'S KINGBIRD and the Fernhill SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER. Paul
Sherrell and Shawn Steinberg were instrumental in locating the kingbird
from the road to the east of Gun Club Rd. after the group of birders
present had heard it call. At the Fernhill Wetlands I ran into David
Mandrell who showed me the sandpiper which was sleeping on the far shore
of Eagle Pond and only raised its head for a short period of time before
disappearing . We birded around the wetland and found a male EURASIAN
WIGEON and a male hybrid EURASIAN/AMERICAN WIGEON.
