Having just moved back to Washington after 34 years on the central coast of California I'm not sure if these sightings are as exciting for the rest of you as they were for me.
On Friday afternoon I had a pair of bald eagles several brown creepers, and a single barn swallow at the Theler Wildlife Preserve on the south side of Hood Canal on the outskirts of Belfair. A great place to visit. For me, it was interesting to have golden-crowned kinglets be the "trash bird" of the day instead of the "bird of note" for an outing. What a great place to take a walk.
I spent Saturday in the Sequim area. Among the hundreds of American Wigeons I had 4 Eurasians outside of 3 Crabs restaurant. The food was as good as the birding. I saw a Peregrine Falcon fly by while standing on the cliff path at Dungeness Recreation Area.
Back on the Hood Canal late Saturday afternoon there was a flock of more than 35 common loons gathered with more than 20 common mergansers on the water about half way between Belfair and Tahuya on the north shore. On Sunday, almost at the same spot, there were 20+ loons with more than 15 red-necked grebes, all in basic plumage.
