Hi Tweeters,
Birded Discovery Park today with Fred Boesche. The hobby was not seen and I
assume it has left the area. Oh well, maybe someday in the next half century
another hobby will be seen and will stick around a little bit longer than a
day. While we birded the park (hiked almost 3.5 miles) we came across 69
species in the 3-4 hours that we were there. Highlights included:
3 Pacific Loons
2 Common Loons
5 Red-necked Grebes
1200+ Western Grebes
3 Brandt's Cormorants
~1 dozen Black Scoters
2 Buffleheads
1 Sharp-shinned Hawk
1 Heerman's Gull
7 Band-tailed Pigeons
1 singing Anna's Hummingbird
3 Varied Thrush
2 American Pipits
1 Townsend's Warbler
3 Fox Sparrows
5 Lincoln's Sparrows
2 Purple Finches

On our way home we stopped in the town of Orting and found a couple
notables; namely a late OSPREY and 7 WESTERN SCRUB-JAYS. Apparently the
scrub-jays have been established in Orting for a couple of years now. They've
really increased in the area lately, and apparently are now common all over
Buckley and Enumclaw. Now if one just shows up at my house... Until then,
good birding!
