Hey Tweets,
Birded today with Scott Downes at Sunrise (Pierce Co.) from 8am until about
3pm with one thing in mind: ptarmigan. But alas, though this was the 5th time
looking for them at Burrough's Mountain for both of us, we could not find
any. We hiked from the lodge to about .5 miles past Second Burrough's, and
then back to the lodge via the Sea Rim Trail. Hiked about 9 miles round trip.
Did run into about all of the common, expected bird species as well as
enjoyed quite a few butterfly species.
Highlights:
1 imm. (male) NORTHERN GOSHAWK (at meadow near lodge)
1 adult Prairie Falcon (on the road up to the lodge)
1 calling Blue Grouse
2 KILLDEER (at Frozen Lake)
2 CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS (.5 mile past Second Burrough's)
Hairy Woodpecker (Sea Rim Trail)
60 Common Ravens (quite high numbers)
25-30 Clark's Nutcrackers
2 Horned Larks
2 BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES (Sea Rim Trail, very high elevation)
12 Mountain Chickadees
3 Hermit Thrushes
5 Am. Pipits
7 Yellow-rumped Warblers (some well above timberline)
3 MacGillivray's Warblers
1 Savannah Sparrow
1 Lincoln's Sparrow
15 Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches
6 Evening Grosbeaks
