Just two points on our day, that I thought I could add to. The first being the the Goshawk we saw was actually an adult male, not an immature. I had a much better view of its back in the morning sun, enabling me to see the slate-blue. Still a nice bird whatever age its in.

The second is in regards to the butterflies that Charlie mentioned. We had quite a few for it being early September, nine species in all; though only six identified to species (we're still trying to learn our butterflies well).

1 Milbert's Tortoiseshell-new for both of us and quite striking.
Many blues and fritillaries; the most abundant blues were Silvery Blue and Lupine Blue and we had a likely Spring Azure as well. The most common frittilary was the Mormon Fritillary but many of them went unidenified. A few skippers and one white seen but not well enough for an ID.
