Hello Ian: They will, although rarely. The platform would have to be quite
large (at least 3ft x 3ft x 3ft x 3ft). Placement would be important to
improve the chances. Great Horneds often choose the largest tree in a stand
of trees bordering hunting habitat. Or perhaps a lone tree in the middle of
hunting habitat. Placement of the artificial nest could vary between 15ft up
to 50ft with somewhere in between being best. Placing an old tire high up in
trees have been known to work with Horned Owls, also. I guess the worse case
would be Red-Tail Hawks using the nest the first season and then the owls
being the bullies that they are would take over the nest the following
