Hi folks,

I'm pretty sure I saw a Western Scrub Jay at the Ballard Locks Sept 5 11am,
sure enough to report it. I got a fleeting look as it flew N across the
large lock and into a grove of trees near the women's restroom. It was
flying at a good rate of speed and I never saw it again but it was blue on
top and white on the bottom and the "zreek zreek zreek" call was consistent
with what I've heard from Scrub Jays before. The grove of trees includes a
big California live oak, an atlas cedar, a dawn redwood and a few others.
There have been a few Steller's Jays hanging around recently as well. Still
3 or 4 Belted Kingfishers, 2 Anna's Hummingbirds. Only one Mew Gull and one
Bonaparte's Gull so far this summer. Shouldn't they be hanging around by now?

Still lots of fish, including a Starry Flounder that's been hanging around
the rocks right where the locks end and Commodore park begins, just west of
the fish ladder.
