Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday September 6. If you have anything to add call

A STREAKED SHEARWATER was reported September 5 among a shearwater swarm
off Cape Meares. Two RED-NECKED STINTS showing some breeding plumage were
on the north side of the Siltcoos River mouth September 3. A PHAINOPEPLA
has been reported from 30th and Willamette Streets in south Eugene. All
of these need verification.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was among a migrant swarm near Washougal September 4.
On August 25 a live, oiled THICK-BILLED MURRE was brought to the Newport
Aquariam. A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was caught and banded at Rocky Point
on Upper Klamath Lake August 30. A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was banded near
Chiloquin August 26.

Migrant LEWIS'S WOODPECKERS and thousands of SOOTY SHEARWATERS along the
coast were conspicuous during the week. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was over
Newport September 5. The first sooty type FOX SPARROW arrived at Astoria
September 5.

A STILT SANDPIPER was at Coffinbury Lake in Fort Stevens State Park and a
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River over
the week-end. A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was at the South Jetty September 5.

A BLACK PHOEBE and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK are now at Ankeny NWR. An
evening roost of up to 20,000 BARN SWALLOWS are now using a corn field
two and half miles south of Dayton. An EASTERN KINGBIRD was south of
Corvallis August 30.

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at Fern Ridge Reservoir September 5. A
SWAINSON'S HAWK was there August 30.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Roaring Springs Ranch in the Catlow Valley
August 30. Another was at Benson Pond in Malheur NWR September 3.
Migrations are now picking up at Malheur with a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH at
Benson Pond last week-end.
