Rachel and Tweeters,

The SNOWY EGRET at Blaine, Whatcom Co. was apparently discovered by
Jim Duemmel of Bellingham on August 22, and has been there ever since.
It was there yesterday, Sept. 7 at 09:30, as reported in the attached
note from the "Whatcom Birds" group. It is most easily found at high
tide, and apparently wanders more at low tide.

Directions: if coming from the south, take the last exit (Exit 276)
on I-5 before the Canadian border crossing. This puts you on "D"
Street. Turn left, go under the freeway, and take the first right (at
the Subway), which is Marine Drive. Marine Drive goes out a long spit
for about a mile, terminating at a crab fishing pier at the entrance
to Drayton Harbor. However, to look for the egret, turn left at the
sign for the boat launch, less than 100 yards from the start of Marine
Drive. The egret has most often been seen near the boat launch or on
nearby muddy shores at the east end of the Blaine marina.

Even if you don't see the egret, if you are at Marine Drive within
about 2 hours of high tide, you should see some interesting shorebirds
on the north side (Semiahmoo Bay side) of Marine Drive. A MARBLED
GODWIT and WILLET have been present for some time (godwit seen
yesterday), and HUDSONIAN GODWIT, PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER, RED KNOT, and
STILT SANDPIPER have all been seen within the last 10 days or so.
