Many thanks for the observations and reports from Bob Woodley, Ruth
Fischer, and Bill & Nancy LaFramboise. Their recent sightings are
summarized as follows:

On the Yakima Delta, shorebirds are present in varying numbers depending on
the water level. As expected Greater & Lesser Yellowlegs are present and
easily seen as are Western & Least Sandpipers. Long-billed Dowitchers and
Common Snipe are present but in smaller numbers. At least 5 American
Avocet still remain. A few Semipalmated Plovers have been present through
today. Pectoral Sandpipers were present in large numbers around 9/4.
Red-necked Phalaropes are still present with at least 15 there today. A
Solitary Sandpiper was present on August 27.

Walks in area parks such as Leslie Groves Park, WE Johnson Park and
Columbia Point in Richland as well as observers' homes have turned up the
following migrants: Warbling Vireo (8/27, 8/30, 8/31, 9/10), Western
Tanager (8/27, 8/29, 8/30), Gray Catbird (8/28, 8/30, 8/31) Western
Wood-Pewee (8/29, 9/10), Orange-crowned Warbler (8/29, 8/30, 9/10) Yellow,
MacGillivray's and Wilson's Warblers (8/29), Yellow-rumped Warblers (8/30,
8/31, 9/10), Red-breasted Nuthatch (8/30), Calliope Hummingbird (8/29), and
Spotted Towhee (8/28).

Nancy LaFramboise discovered a RED KNOT at the Yakima Delta on September 4.
It was verified by several other observers. It was not relocated after
water levels went up that night.

A GREEN HERON was at Hat Rock State Park in Oregon on September 9, seen by
Tony Greager & Pete Francovic (sp?).

A FOX SPARROW was observed by Ruth Fischer and Nancy LaFramboise at WE
Johnson Park today and shorebirds were fairly numerous at the Yakima Delta.
A SANDERLING was noted among the Western Sandpipers. A first year
SABINE'S GULL was also there.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
sightings after the tone. Thank you.
