Today I did a little birding and hiking on the west side of Mt. St.
Helens (Cowlitz County). Sunny skies, not very many people, and not very
many birds either, but a great time to be outdoors. On the way home I
stopped at the Nisqually Refuge where I ran into Ruth and Patrick
Sullivan, where we had 1 Solitary Sandpiper. After, we went to Hartman
Rd. where we had the Buff Breasted Sandpiper near the outhouse building.

Here's what I saw at St. Helens.

Sediment Dam:
150 Canada Geese
8 Killdeer
13 Least Sandpipers
1 Black Throated Gray Warbler
2 Warbling Vireos

Coldwater Lake:
1 Coot
2 Baird's Sandpipers
4 Willow Flycathers

Hummocks Trail:
8 American Kestrels (all at one time)
2 Western Meadowlarks
Tons of Dragon Flies

Johnson Ridge Observatory:
1 American Pipit
1 Turkey Vulture (Adult)

2 miles west of the 505 jct along the Toutle River:
1 Turkey Vulture

St. Helens Information Center at Silver Lake:
1 Willow Flycather
1 Western Tanager
