Welcome Back the Birds at Bird Fest 2001
October 13-14, 2001

The Friends of Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge in cooperation with the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be hosting their Annual Bird Fest,
October 13-14, 2001, in Ridgefield, Washington to welcome back wintering
birds to Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. Everyone is invited to
explore the richness of birding at one of southwest Washington's natural
jewels along the lower Columbia River -- Ridgefield National Wildlife
Refuge. Bird Fest 2001 activities include a variety of presentations and
slide programs, raptor shows, guided field trips, and water excursions
designed for everyone, from the budding naturalist to the most avid bird
watcher. Special tours will be offered to view sandhill cranes flying in
at sunset to a refuge roosting area. Or, you may want to learn about the
refuge's geological, archaeological and cultural resources by joining an
archaeologist on a trip back in time to visit the ancient Chinook Indian
town that Lewis and Clark visited while traveling their historic Corps of
Discovery voyage to reach the Pacific. Special activities are also planned
for the kids. Join us for this wonderful and exciting time of year at our
little piece of paradise!
