Hi folks,

There was a juv. accipiter at the locks today that landed on the railing
between the water and the sidewalk, right below the big stairway where the
sidewalk curves south. about 40 feet away from me. If it was hunting I
didn't see its prey. It was big, 16 to 20 inches, and the tail was well
rounded, both perched and in flight. I don't remember an eye stripe, so if
I had to guess I'd say a Coopers. It flew south up the terraced slope and
landed in a small tree about three feet off another sidewalk. By the time I
got up there it was gone. Too many tourists... Three Belted Kingfishers
were fishing in various spots, one female was fishing off the east gate
inside the large locks, I've never seen that. Three Anna's Hummingbirds in
the gardens, a few Great Blue Herons, one Heerman's Gull last week.
