Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Wednesday September 19. If you have anything to add
call Harry Nehls at 503-233-3976.

A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was at Fields September 14 but could not be found
the next day. Malheur NWR has been very good lately with a BLACKPOLL
WARBLER and a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER at Benson Pond and single
RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS at Benson Ponds and at Malheur Headquarters.

An offshore boat trip out of Garibaldi September 15 found two XANTUS'S
MURRELETS 18 miles offshore.

TURKEY VULTURES and AMERICAN PIPITS were conspicuous migrants during the
week with SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS seen in many areas. A few migrant
RED-EYED VIREOS were reported. RED-NECKED GREBES are now showing up along
the coast.

On September 16 a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was along Oceanview Drive south of
Brookings. An AMERICAN REDSTART was in Brookings September 18. A
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was near Cape Blanco September 15. A RUFF, a
STILT SANDPIPER and a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER were at Bandon last
week-end. A SNOWY EGRET was near Florence September 15.

A RUFF has been seen off and on all week along Fenk Road west of
Tillamook. On September 16 a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was there. Two
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS were at the South Jetty of the Columbia River
September 15. Four PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS were there September 18.

Good numbers of SANDHILL CRANES and WHITE PELICANS are still in the
Sauvie Island/Ridgefield NWR area. A DIPPER was at the Japanese Gardens
in Portland September 15. One wintered there last year.

On September 16 a HORNED GREBE was at the Fernhill Wetlands and eight
EARED GREBES were on the Philomath Sewage Ponds. The spectacular BARN
SWALLOW roost south of Dayton contained up to 200,000 birds last
week-end.

A WHIMBREL was at Ankeny NWR and one was at Fern Ridge Reservoir
September 16. Two FORSTER'S TERNS have been at Fern Ridge, and on
September 18 a FRANKLIN'S GULL was there.

SABINE'S GULLS moved through eastern Oregon during the week bringing 4 to
the LaGrande Sewage Ponds and singles to the Prineville and Redmond
Sewage Ponds. A dark morph PARASITIC JAEGER was at Klamath Falls
September 13. Two STILT SANDPIPERS were south of Klamath Falls September
14.

Thats it for this week.
