Chinook Valley Raptor count
Pacific County, Washington
September 21, 2001 0910-1010hr

Turkey Vulture 4
White-tailed Kite 2 [1]
Bald Eagle 1
Northern Harrier 4
Red-tailed Hawk 1

RED-TAILED HAWK numbers were surprisingly low considering how
many there are this year on the Oregon side of the estuary.
Both WHITE-TAILED KITES appeared to be adults. One was eating
a large dark vole (probably TOWNSEND'S VOLE).

A large migrant flock of TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS (30+), BLACK-THROATED
GRAY WARBLERS and kinglets was also seen near the pony pasture on
the eastern end of Chinook Valley Rd.

Birds seen (in taxonomic order):

Brown Pelican
Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Mallard
California Gull
Western Gull
Glaucous-winged Gull
Band-tailed Pigeon
American Crow
Common Raven
Barn Swallow
Black-capped Chickadee
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
American Robin
European Starling
Black-throated Gray Warbler
Townsend's Warbler [2]

White-crowned Sparrow
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco

Footnotes:

[1] from Lingenfelter Rd
[2] In a single large flock of 30+

Total number of species seen: 29
