Greetings,
I spent a couple of hours Friday morning walking the dike trail at Nisqually
NWR. Things were generally pretty quiet as compaired to recent weeks.
Shorebird movements have tapered off, and the passerine scene was rather
dead. A few good birds were noted however. Best birds were an adult and
juvenile Horned Lark in the freshly plowed area where a new wetland is being
constructed/ enhanced near the refuge headquarters. A tractor and dozer
were working at the site and many Am. Pipits, Killdeer, Savannah Sparrows,
and Robin were working the area as well. Along the outer dike were a few
shorebirds but not many; the best being Pectoral Sandpipers (2). Many
Pipits here as well. I also heard a call that may have been a Lapland
Longspur, but could not pin it down. The other "best birds" included
Merlin, Peregrine Falcon, and American Bittern (2 at the blind along
MacAllister Creek). Good luck.
