I birded the Steigerwald Lake N.W.R. in Clark County, near
Washougal on 9/22/01. On the Washougal Sewage Lagoons there was an
immature EARED GREBE, the second one I have had there this year. 1
AMERICAN BITTERN, a GREEN HERON, 5 GREAT EGRETS, and 9 GREATER YELLOWLEGS
were among the birds on the mud flats exposed as the lake recedes. I have
never seen so little water on the refuge in the twenty five years that I
have birded there some ponds are now completely dried and have grasses
sprouting in them.
