Hi All,
I second Bob Flores comments about ponds. Today a Goldfinch was drinking in our pond at the same time a Song Sparrow was taking a good long bath. The ponds especially seem to attract Song Sparrows, which were marginal here on Beacon Hill, at least in our yard, before the ponds, but now are here all the time even though the whole area is infested with cats. Our Red Legged Frogs were imported, but seem to be surviving, and vocalize now and then.
We had a Merlin (ad. male, presumably Columbarius) on 9/23 at Spencer Island near Everett, along with maybe 5 Sharpies, Vaux's Swifts, a Bittern and Pipits.
We're headed for west Central Illinois and thinking of heading to the Mark Twain National Wildlife Refuge pretty soon. Anyone have any tips or recommendations about it or other places within 3 hours of Macomb, Illinois or so?
Thanks in advance, Ed Newbold, Beacon Hill Seattle newboldwildlife at netscape.net
