Saturday Marv Breece, Mark Houston, and I tried for White-tailed Ptarmigan at Cascade Pass. In years past this has been a great
spot to find them, but not yesterday. Here's a list of what we did see:

1-Sharp-shinned Hawk
1-Golden Eagle
quite a few Blue Grouse
1-Red-breasted Sapsucker
2-Hairy Woodpeckers
1-Northern Flicker
small flocks of Gray Jays with some trying to sound like Pygmy-Owls
1-Clark's Nutcracker
1-Horned Lark
lots of Chestnut-backed Chickadees
several Red-breasted Nuthatches
2-Brown Creepers
lots of Golden-crowned Kinglets
1-Hermit Thrush
3-American Robins flying over the pass going west
several Varied Thrush
1-American Pipit
2-Yellow-rumped Warblers near the parking lot
2-Song Sparrows
Pine Siskins
1-flock of Evening Grosbeaks

The forested area in the basin just east of Cascade Pass in the basin looks great for Boreal Owls, but we were not there after dark.
Anyone who owls up here please let me know. Also the trail is 3.7 miles of steep switch-backs to the pass, but in good condition.
