Wanted to check out the Osprey Nest on Highway 12 between Malone and Porter
to see if it was occupied yet. It was not. But saw a Bald Eagle (the
first for me on this part of the Chehalis), a couple of Kingfishers, one
Common Merganser, and Tree Swallows. It wasn't until I turned to go back
up to the road that the highlight of my day appeared. A pair of Brown
Creepers were busy preparing their nest in an old moss crowned wooden post
with several entrances. They totally ignored me as they ferried their
burden into their condo, sometimes going into the bottom entrance sometimes
going into the top. They they would peek out for several seconds before
flying into the underbrush for more supplies. Their nest is only about 30
inches off the ground so I wish them Godspeed.
