In regards to El Nino (can someone tell me how to put a tilde over the n
without replacing the n?...is it even possible?)-La Nina...having lived
through both...El Nino gives us dryer, warmer fall and winter while L.A.
gets a lot more rain and the ocean wreaks havoc on those silly enough to
build their expensive homes right on the beach. La Nina is the reverse.
On another note, Monday as I left the parking lot at Damon Point here in
Ocean Shores, I saw a large V-formation of birds headed across the harbor
from Westport. I counted 96 swans, and followed them at a stately 35 mph as
they headed north up the coast, right over the main beaches. I didn't see
one other person stop to look despite their obvious honking calls and their
fairly low flight.
Tuesday, same place, as I walked from the makeshift parking area along
Marine View Drive (just west of the Damon Point entrance) to the beach, I
saw three Snowy Plover in the area just below that inner pond. I stopped as
soon as I saw them and we remained frozen in place watching each other. I
was approx 25 ft from them. I finally walked around them and they remained
in that vicinity. They were, of course, outside the area that has been
designated for them in the past.
