At Cavanaugh Pond County Park at about 2:00PM on April 4, we saw what
appeared to be a hybrid between a mallard and a black duck. The duck had
the size and shape of a mallard, its beak and feet were orange, its head was
a darker and less iridescent green than a typical mallard's; but its wings
and body were black. The park is north of the Renton-May Valley Road, SR
169, and apparently appears on the westerly edge of DeLorme 63. 8A. Entry is
by a private road to a motor home, with parking for the park and trails
around the pond to the left of the entrance. The pond is next to and visible
from 169, especially when west bound. ED LEVEL, Everett, WA..
