This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Thursday, April 4th, evening update,
sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Vancouver and North
Vancouver.

The featured birds are: Say's Phoebe, Mountain Bluebird and a possible
Western Bluebird.

Sightings for Thursday, April 4:

A possible Western Bluebird was seen at Maplewood Flats in North Vancouver.
This is a very rare bird in the Lower Mainland area and confirmation of
this
sighting would be most appreciated. The bird was hawking insects at the east
end of the bridge that crosses the creek just south of the nursery.

A pair of Mountain Bluebirds were at Colony Farms in Coquitlam.

A Say's Phoebe was observed for 20 minutes between Blackie Spit and Crescent
Beach in White Rock.

The Yellow-billed Loon continued to be seen off Kloochan Park in West
Vancouver.

Wednesday, April 3:

A Turkey Vulture was over Wellington and Hastings.

An Osprey flew over Coquitlam and landed towards Rocky Point.

Another Osprey was along the Coquitlam River at Reeve Park in Port Coquitlam
at the end of Wilson Street.

An Anna's Hummingbird was coming to a feeder at the 1300 block of Corbin in
Canyon Springs in Coquitlam.

2 adult and 3 young Great Horned Owls were at Deas Island.

Iona had a Rough-winged Swallow over the inner ponds and a Greater
Yellowlegs
in breeding plumage.

Tuesday, April 2:

An Eared Grebe was seen off the south Jetty of Iona Island and a Barn
Swallow was seen over the ponds.

The Northern Waterthrush and a Hermit Thrush continued to be seen at Reifel
Refuge, along the entrance road.

Along the Tsawwassen Ferry jetty on the north side were 2 Black
Oystercatchers, while an American Kestrel was at the base of the jetty.
2 Rhinosorous Auklets were seen off Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts.

Monday, April 1:

A Gyr Falcon and a Turkey Vulture were seen in a kettle of raptors over the
Upper Levels Highway in West Vancouver. Also in West Vancouver the

Yellow-billed Loon continued to be seen off Kloochan Park, along with a
Black
Oystercatcher. Also present was an Anna's Hummingbird.

Reifel had a Northern Waterthrush, a Northern Rough-winged Swallow and a
Greater White-fronted Goose.

In nearby Deas Island there were 3 Great-horned Owls and a Hermit Thrush.

Point Robert's in Washington has 2 Barn Swallows and a Hutton's Vireo.

Present at Grant Narrows were an Osprey, a Pine Grosbeak and a Rufous
Hummingbird.
A Western Meadowlark was seen at Maplewood Mudflats in North Vancouver.
