Just a few notes from a long birding route on these two days:
4/2 Tricolored Blackbirds - several males near the McManoman Rd. ponds NW
of Othello, seen from the road; at least one male singing this species'
screechy song. Also a few dozen male Yellow-headed Blackbirds in the flocks
here near cattle and periodically sitting on utility wires.
4/2 Sandhill Cranes - largest concentration seen was in late afternoon,
along Corfu Rd. about a mile south of Hwy. 26; many hundreds in the air,
circling and landing in cornfields, probably 2000-3000 birds in the
vicinity, putting up an amazing clatter.
4/3 No sign of Common Grackle along Birchfield Rd. east of Yakima in early
morning. It could still be around - we had only about half an hour to look.
Ospreys seem to be back in force at traditional nest sites near Cle Elum,
Ellensburg, etc.
