Yesterday I put out the hummingbird feeder and within five minutes a male Rufous Hummingbird was feeding. Today I've seen females and/or immatures, and possibly a male (It flew away before I could get a good enough look for positive ID). We've seen two hummers at a time on a couple of occasions, but usually only one feeds at a time. Once a feeding hummer left with another that approached the feeder but it didn't look like it was chasing the other; I think both were females or immatures since neither was an adult male. Since I don't know hummingbird behavior that well I don't know if this is significant or what--if anything--it meant. I've been watching backyard birds casually for several decades, but only in the past year have I started to learn more about them than simply identifying what bird I saw. Tweeters has already helped enlighten me.
