Birded parts of Point-No-Point area again today, and it was
somewhat quiet. Five Greater Yellowlegs were chattering in the marsh and
seemed upset at something. At the Nature Conservancy, Foulweather Bluff,
there were a flock of about 30 Golden-crowned Kinglets in the firs along the
trail going in, and a pair of Pied-billed Grebes are building a nest in the
marsh area. Buck lake which usually has a good selection of swallows to test
my skills was quiet with none there yet.
Stopping in Kingston for coffee and lunch, I noticed about 200
Bonaparte's Gulls, many in breeding plumage and one Greater Yellowlegs in the
harbor.
Manzanita Landing, on Bainbridge Island's westside, had about
250 Pacific Loons out in the main channel along with as many Western Grebes.
A lone female Common Merganser appeared just off the landing area. Several
kyakers were awed by the large number of Pacific Loons that I showed them
throught the scope.
