Hello Tweeters,
My neighbourhood bird survey has been very fascinating. Usually end up with
the same species, but not always in the same place! For instance, the
Double-crested Cormorant is usually in the river, but one time, I found one
in the slough amongst the ducks. Last time I did the survey, a hummingbird
kept calling near me, but I just could not spot it. Time to put out the
hummingbird feeder! Another bird that I have only heard and not seen is a
Killdeer. The main group of birds I try to get almost every survey are:
Downy woodpecker, Mourning Dove, Red-tailed Hawk, Black-capped chickadee,
Dark-eyed Junco, Marsh wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Great Blue Heron,
Mallard, Wood Duck, Northern flicker, House Finch, Northwestern Crow,
American Robin, and some sort of gull. I am now doing the survey every two
weeks instead of every week. Will keep everybody posted whenever any new
species turn up. Just recently been getting Tree Swallows (beautiful!).
