Hi all--

I picked up a 1930 reprint of Willard Ayres Eliot's 1923 book "Birds of the
Pacific Coast" for $3.90, and have enjoyed paging through it. The color
plates are nice, and of course the names (both scientific and common) have
undergone many changes since then. But it is obvious that the author
thoroughly loved birds.

I found one statement in the introduction interesting, and so I share it
with you all:

"The popular interest and love for wild birds has advanced with such strides
in the past twenty years that it seems quite unlikely that any more bird
species will completely disappear through the destructive agency of man."

Such optimism from a bygone era.....

Happy Birding,

Linda
